If not a bunk bed, then what? Trundle beds for children!

The advantage of sibling sharing a room is more than the disadvantages. Having fun together, sharing secrets from parents, talking together before going to bed - all these aspects cannot be overestimated and can be an excellent adventure. It is also an opportunity to learn to compromise, share things and invent games that satisfy both parties. Even if the children are arguing with each other and starting tavern quarrels about toys, from the perspective of benefits and memories, the common room is a plus. Sometimes it is a necessity, resulting from a small size, and sometimes it is just an idea of the children themselves, after all, it is known for a long time that a bully in the company of siblings works best :)

Usually, when considering placing children in one room, we consider bunk beds. It is a great option for the development of space, which we have emphasized many times in our previous texts. If you are not convinced yet, look HERE or HERE and find out about the benefits of bunk beds. However, if this type of piece of furniture is not for you for various reasons, e.g., fear of falling out, and you still want to make the most of the available space in your child's room, we have an excellent alternative that you will surely like!

A pull-out double bed combines the advantages of a bunk bed and a traditional bed. Thanks to its structure, it allows you to arrange the space as if there were only one bed in the room. In addition, since the upper bed is located at a relatively low height, it is also very safe, because a fall should generally not have any serious consequences.

The design of a pull-out double bed is basically trivial. Every day, the room has one bed, which is located on a small elevation, thanks to which the bed is slightly higher than in traditional children's beds. Directly below it there is a second bed that can be pulled out in the evening to turn a single bed into a double bed. When planning the furnishing of a children's room and adding a double bed, it is worth arranging the furniture so that there is room for this additional, retractable model. In the morning, just slide the bed underneath and it is ready!

This type of piece of furniture is also a great solution for one child's room, which, for example, often hosts friends for the night. Every day, the bed functions as a traditional single, but when the need arises, it turns into a great bedding for small guests. It can also be an interesting alternative for parents of children who have trouble falling asleep and need adult assistance. It will also work well with frequent wakeups or infections, when we want to keep an eye on the child, but we do not necessarily want to take them to our own bed. Thanks to this solution, camping with a sick child at night or holding a sleeping toddler by the hand becomes less burdensome.

You can find many models of pull-out beds on the Internet and in stationary stores, but although they look similar at first glance, the better ones have a few details that make a difference in later use. So, what should you pay attention to when choosing a double bed?

Even though the upper bunk of the double bed is not extremely high, fall arrest rails are generally a must. Their main task, apart from securing the toddler against falling out, is primarily to ensure the safety of the child sleeping below. Sometimes children "wander" in their sleep all over the bed, and such an unfortunate fall on a brother or sister below is certainly not going to be a pleasure. Although experience shows that kids generally rarely fall out of bed, be it bunk, traditional or retractable, it is worth being cautious and taking precautions against such an eventuality. The rails can be simply removed if necessary.

Another issue is the drawer under the bed. Not all models have them, but it is an element that makes life much easier, especially for mothers who make their kids' beds in the morning. Such a drawer is spacious enough to accommodate bedding or additional blankets, it will also be perfect as a storage room for toys, which are always incredibly abundant in children's rooms. This solution will save a lot of space and help to introduce some order at least within the bed.
