A desk for a first grader. Which one to choose? Where should it be placed? Which chair to buy? - advice

Choosing furniture for a future student is a real challenge. Correct dimensions desks, adjustable chairs, study space - all this can help or hinder the learning and development of our children. Which desk and accessories should you choose so that the child's room becomes a place suitable for learning and playing? First class is an unusual but also demanding time for every child and parent. It is a moment that a toddler starts as a preschooler and leaves as a primary school student. During this time, the child gets to know a completely different world. New school, new teachers, new acquaintances and, above all, new school duties. Homework, reading or distance learning are tasks that each student faces.

This is a breakthrough moment in the development of our children, and the most important task of parents is to support the child and provide them with a space where they will be able to freely learn, play, and prepare for the challenges that await our brave little one every day. The most important piece of furniture is, of course, a desk, which, if properly selected, can help the child learn and develop properly.

The desk's and child's height

When choosing a desk, you must pay attention to being able to adjust the height of the desk to the child's height. The little one will spend a lot of time at the desk doing homework or relaxing at the computer. Correct body posture is very important, especially at such a young age, when our child's body is just being shaped.

We present how to choose the height of the desk according to the child's height:

Child's height - desk height

110-130 cm - 50 cm

140 cm - 60 cm

150 cm - 65 cm

160 cm - 70 cm

However, the height of the desk is not everything. In order for the child to feel at ease, you should also remember about the width of the table top, which should be about 100 cm. Whereas the depth of the desk should be at least 50 cm

Which chair should I choose?

Choosing the right chair is also a real challenge. What to consider when choosing a chair for a children's desk?

A well-chosen chair should support the child's body at three points:

  1. Seat - the child should sit with their entire buttocks on the seat of the chair
  2. The feet should rest freely on the floor
  3. Elbows should rest on the table top along its entire length

In a properly selected chair, our child's back and neck should be in an upright position.

Where to locate the desk? How to Arrange a Room for a young student?

The arrangement of a desk in a children's room should depend on access to sunlight. It is best to place the desk with the front or side to the window, to provide the child with as much light as possible. Let's not forget, however, that our toddlers, although they go to school bravely, are still children, so you should not arrange the room as if they were already teenagers. Let's leave space for the child to play, and desks with interesting shapes will help us in this , e.g. the Flapp or Mia desk, which will change the toddler's room, allowing them to have great fun between school duties.

The environment is just as important as the desk

You have a properly selected desk, that means we are only half way there to creating a study space. We should also remember about an adjustable chair, which will support the correct posture of the child. There should also be an office lamp on the children's desk, which will provide the toddler with the right light for learning, without damaging our student's eyesight.

A pinboard placed at the desk , with a timetable or spelling words, can be a great help in learning. Blackboard paint, which allows you to write with chalk on the wall, has also been very popular recently. It is not only a useful tool for learning, but also a lot of fun!

Remember, however, that the desk should be kept tidy. Too many items may not only overwhelm the child, but also make it impossible to freely use books or write in a notebook. The desk must be large enough to accommodate a computer and all utensils that our little one uses when doing homework or online learning.

Our child's performance at school depends largely on us parents. The first years of education may turn out to be extremely stressful not only for children, but also for parents. So it is good to take care of a space where the toddler will be able to freely develop, learn, explore a new world, dream and dream.
